Pedernales, DR- The expansion of the Cabo Rojo port, a key infrastructure project for the Pedernales Tourism Development Plan, is nearing completion with an initial investment of US$98 million. The port is extending its dock to 700 meters and creating a new recreational area with commercial spaces to enhance the visitor experience.
In 2024, the port welcomed 16,596 cruise passengers, with over 5,000 tourists engaging in local experiences to explore the natural and cultural attractions of Pedernales. The ITM Group, the port’s concessionaire, emphasized that ensuring tourists’ confidence in the destination is essential to expanding the range of tourism products offered.
In January 2025, three additional cruise ships arrived at the port, bringing 8,168 tourists, raising the total number of visitors to 24,764 since its opening, according to Diario Libre.
