Santo Domingo.- Starting in June, the Dominican ports Amber Cove, in Puerto Plata, and La Romana, will receive the largest cruise ship of the Carnival Cruise Line company -Carnival Horizon- that will bring more than 6,000 cruise tourists to the country on each visit.

Dominican Port Authority director, Víctor Gómez Casanova, praised Dominican Republic’s incorporation as a “very positive cruise destination.”

The official said the visits will have an important impact on the Government’s goal of receiving 10 million tourists per year.

“The incorporation of our ports in the cruise’s destination route not only significantly boosts the local economy of these tourist enclaves, but also brings us closer to our goal-country to achieve the arrival of 10 million tourists. We are talking about 6,000 tourists in each visit that will be disembarking in our ports in over 20 dates and this is just from June to December 2018,” said Gomez.

North Region deputy tourism minister Julio Almonte, made the announcement at the opening ceremony of the Carnival Cruise Season in New York, headed by Carnival CEO Arnold Donald, and vice president David Candib, among other officials and business leaders.
