BerlÃn.- On the inaugural day of the ITB Berlin fair on Tuesday, March 5, Minister David Collado engaged in a series of meetings and negotiations with various airlines, aiming to establish direct flight connections between Germany and the Dominican Republic. These efforts form a crucial component of strategies devised to fortify the Dominican tourism sector within these markets.
Key agreements were reached with Condor Airline, committing to nine weekly flights from Frankfurt that will serve Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, and Puerto Plata. Discover Airlines pledged five weekly flights from Frankfurt to Punta Cana, while Edelweiss Air committed to three weekly flights connecting Zurich to Puerto Plata and Punta Cana.
In 2023, Germany emerged as the fourth-largest source of tourists for the Dominican Republic, with a total of 146,242 visitors. Simultaneously, Switzerland secured its place as the seventh-highest contributor from Europe, with 42,514 tourists.
While executing his agenda in Berlin, Minister Collado took the opportunity to conduct a roadshow for an audience comprising 260 travel agents, tour operators, and representatives from German airlines. This initiative, undertaken by the Ministry of Tourism, marks the 58th occasion of such roadshows held in the United States, Canada, Europe, and LATAM over the past three years.
