Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) marked its 70th anniversary, celebrating decades of national and international recognition since its creation in 1955. The milestone was observed with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Santa Bárbara Military Cathedral in the Colonial City, led by IDAC Director General, Igor Rodríguez Durán.
Rodríguez Durán highlighted IDAC’s consolidation, affirming it is now “a solid, recognized institution nationally and internationally, committed to the highest standards of operational safety, transparency, innovation, and service.”
The anniversary honored contributors. Rodríguez Durán paid tribute: “This anniversary is a fitting occasion to pay homage to all those who, at every stage of our history, have contributed their effort, passion, and commitment to making IDAC what it is today. We thank the pioneers, the past directors, the technicians, the controllers, the inspectors, all the administrative and operational personnel who have been the heart of this institution.”
He described the institution’s growth as “extraordinary.” “We have evolved from a limited initial structure towards a robust body, with modern infrastructure, highly trained human talent, and a clear vision for the future, in line with the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).”
Acknowledging industry changes, Rodríguez Durán discussed future challenges driven by technology, sustainability, and air transport dynamics. He reiterated IDAC’s commitment: “Our commitment is to continue strengthening the aeronautical authority, promoting innovation, and guaranteeing that the Republica Dominicana remains a regional benchmark in civil aviation.”
IDAC reaffirmed its dedication to a safer, more efficient, inclusive, and environmentally friendly aviation sector, supporting national development. The mass, officiated by Rev. Father Milcíades Florentino, included attendees such as Director General Igor Rodríguez Durán and wife, Milli Núñez, Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, Deputy DG Paola Aimée Plá Puello, JAC President Héctor Porcella, Airport Dept. Exec. Director Víctor Pichardo, Maj. Gen. Pilot Floreal T. Suárez Martínez (FARD Commander), Brig. Gen. Pilot Enmanuel Souffront Tamayo (CESAC Director), and Bernarda Franco Candelario (JAC Secretary).
