Montego Bay, Jamaica.-The Dominican Republic and Jamaica on Tues. signed a multi-destination tourism cooperation agreement, during the World Tourism Conference being held in the Caribbean island.

Dominican foreign minister, Miguel Vargas and Kanina Johnson of Jamaica signed the agreement, in addition to the ministers of Tourism, Francisco Javier García and Edmund Bartlett.

“Where tourism arrives, progress arrives. Where tourism arrives, development arrives for the countries. Tourism is an ideal tool to contribute to the development of nations such as the countries that make up the Caribbean,” García said.

He stated his country’s interest in sharing experiences of success with the entire region, adding that the Dominican Republic also seeks to learn from all Caribbean countries.

Bartlett called the signing a “very special moment” for the region’s tourism. “It’s a new sense of cooperation defining the relations of the Caribbean countries, it’s a win-win situation.

He said it’s Jamaica’s second multi-destination tourism cooperation agreement with another Caribbean country, citing the MoU signed with Cuba a few months ago.
