Dominican tourism started the year with a historical record in arrivals, reaching 1,155,484 visitors in January, exceeding 2019 by 53%, 22% by 2023, and 8% by 2024.

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, reported this when presenting the results of the industry’s behavior. In addition, he said that the country received 759,929 tourists by air in January, while 395,555 cruise passengers arrived by sea.

“When adding those two figures we have the big number: 1,155,484 visitors, breaking our own records from previous years,” he said.

The official said the main countries of origin of tourists in January were the United States (36%), Canada (25%), Argentina (8%), Colombia (5%), and France (3%).

He also reported that Punta Cana airport receives the most significant number of tourists, 63%, followed by Las Américas (AILA) with 19%, Cibao with 9%, and Puerto Plata with 7%.

Hotel occupancy during January was 82%, while the stay of foreigners was 9 days.

Minister Collado reiterated that 2025 will be a better year for Dominican tourism, thanks to the alliance between the public and private sectors.

He indicated that priority will be given to improving air connectivity, guaranteeing more tourist arrivals.

Collado took advantage of the stage to offer details of the Dominican Republic’s participation in the ANATO Showcase tourism fair, which will take place in Bogota, Colombia, from the 26th to the 28th of this month.

Meanwhile, Juan Bancalari, president of Asonahores, agreed with the minister that 2025 will be an extraordinary year for the sector.

He also highlighted the effectiveness of the public-private partnership, the Mitur team’s work to achieve successful results, and the records that the tourism industry has been exhibiting month after month.

He also highlighted the success of the Dominican Republic in its recent participation in the Fitur 2025 tourism fair, which took place in Madrid, Spain.
