Santo Domingo – The Dominican Republic is in a new era of tourism investment, where the State has to be more committed, public policies have to be more coherent, and the private sector has to make the change in the offer, investment, and structure of the new, that is, redesign the destination.

Jacqueline Mora, Deputy Minister of Tourism, made the statement yesterday while speaking at the “Asonahores Tourism Investment Forum 2024.” She pointed out that even though the country is receiving more significant investment than the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, it is necessary to invest in the destination, and this cannot be done by the private sector alone.

She said that other countries are also betting on tourism, seeing it as a key sector, and are offering more incentives.

“People want to travel. Tourism will continue to grow. People are looking for something new, and price is a critical factor, which tells us that new investments must meet those demands but that existing ones have to be modified,” Mora said.

She gave the example of Jamaica, which perceives tourism as a greater priority than the DR since, in recent years, that country has taken a solid approach to the sector.

He recalled that in terms of competitive pricing, the Dominican Republic is far behind in the region because it does not have the price of a competitive package, which includes access to the Dominican Republic’s tourism services.
