Santo Domingo.- Flights at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) were briefly suspended after debris from SpaceX’s Starship rocket was observed over the Dominican Republic. The rocket, touted as the largest and most powerful in the world, experienced a failure after a smooth takeoff from Texas on Thursday.

Luis José López, spokesperson for Dominican Airports Siglo XXI (Aerodom), confirmed that the pause in operations was requested by air traffic control to ensure safety. “There was a temporary pause in operations at the request of air traffic control while the situation was validated,” López stated. Operations resumed shortly after, with no further disruptions reported.

The incident led to temporary flight suspensions at Aerodom-operated airports, though reports of broader suspensions across Dominican terminals remain unconfirmed. The situation underscores the importance of safety measures in response to unexpected aerospace events.
