Higuey, La Altagracia.-  The Higüey Municipal Council honored Frank Rainieri as a “Meritorious Son” for his significant contributions to regional development and tourism promotion in the Dominican Republic. The award, presented by Mayor Karina Aristy, recognizes Rainieri’s pioneering role in creating the Punta Cana tourism hub. His efforts led to the establishment of the region’s first major hotel, Club Med, marking the start of Punta Cana’s rise as a top tourist destination.

Rainieri is also the founder of Punta Cana International Airport, the world’s first private commercial airport, which has been vital to the area’s tourism growth. Additionally, he created the Puntacana Foundation, which focuses on corporate social responsibility and sustainable development, implementing numerous projects to benefit local communities and protect the environment.
