Juan Dolio Beach
Juan Dolio Beach is located on the southern coast of Dominican Republic. It is set between Boca Chica on the west and San Pedro de Macoris on the east (and La Romana a little farther on). The area is roughly 30 miles from the main airport in Santo Domingo and 15 miles from Las Americas International Airport. Playa Juan Dolio Dominican Republic has been around for some time, but as development furthers along on the island, it too has become a popular place to invest. This has created a new area of Juan Dolio, called Villas del Mar and you can imagine what to expect there simply by the name.

The building boom here is second to none on the island. Once a classic island getaway with many all inclusive resorts, the area now is gearing up its luxury vacation apartments with several harbors for yachts, some of the prettiest Dominican Republic beaches, and golf courses. Still there are many things to do revolving around the beach area such as horseback riding, swimming, and diving. The entire expanse of Playa Juan Dolio is enveloped by a large coral reef which makes snorkeling particularly appealing.

While Villas del Mar on the east side is getting plenty of investment attention, focusing on the western area offers many paybacks for beach-lovers. The west end is named Old Juan Dolio, and retains most of its original charm. Though somewhat difficult to ignore the empty shells of some older hotel projects left after 1998s Hurricane George, there are still many upsides to the beach and immediate area within Old Juan Dolio and Juan Dolio Beach. The distance between west and east is roughly seven miles.

Juan Dolio Beach is more of a highlight for snorkelers than swimmers, and with a rugged, coral-laced shoreline, the underwater view is very interesting with small sea creatures, colorful fish and plenty of underwater plants to discover. The sand is sugary-white and super-soft and the water is an intense hue of both green and blue. There are several small food huts along the beach providing food and drinks to beach goers.

Lined by beach houses, the short strip of sand exudes a very homey, friendly feel. That could be because those who vacation by Playa Juan Dolio Dominican Republic have been doing so for years creating a strong community fabric. The village and beach are closely tied and along the strip there are many fantastic local restaurants, small shops and a few bars. If looking for tours and excursions, Villas del Mar is the place to look. That’s also where the majority of ATMs and other tourist amenities are located. A short taxi ride will get you there from the west end.

Nearby attractions include the beach town and fishing village of Guayacanes to the west and farther along, Playa Caribe, a pretty beach with a cove-like setting. Moving farther west is Boca Chica and then Santo Domino. The beach road cutting through Juan Dolio is most-often walked by visitors and locals. Bicycles are widely available and a great way to explore. Hotels include both large resorts and budget-friendly guesthouses. Deep sea fishing trips and PADI certification are both offered through most of the bigger hotels but the best diving is off nearby Catalina Island.
