Santo Domingo.- The jump in arrivals of Dominicans who live abroad compensated for the drop in the number of visitors in August.

Data from Dominican Republic’s Central Bank indicate that between January and August 4,664,036 visitors arrived in the country, a 0.4% increase over the same period last year, of 4,644,049 tourists.

The arrival of foreign tourists decreased 1.8% during the first eight months, or 3,956,466 visitors.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Dominicans not resident in the country increased by 14.8%, with 707,570 between January and August.

Just in August the fall was 7.5%, lower than the 11.2% decline posted in July.
