Santo Domingo – Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) explained that Las Americas International Airport (AILA) receives up to 100 flights daily from various destinations, reflecting the importance of this season for the Dominican Diaspora.
Flights arriving in Las Americas from cities in the United States, Puerto Rico, Europe, Central America, and South America are fully booked, with travelers looking to enjoy the holidays with their families.
As a result, airlines have set up additional spaces to handle the large number of suitcases and packages, but some travelers say they have been waiting for their belongings to be delivered for weeks.
However, the increased volume of travelers has brought some inconveniences. According to Listin Diario, some passengers have expressed complaints due to the delay in the delivery of their luggage.
A manager of an airline with regular flights from New York acknowledged that many passengers bring excess baggage despite the additional fees they must pay for extra suitcases. Even so, the authorities have pointed out that these complaints are isolated cases and do not represent a generalized problem.
It is recalled that Aerodom projects that more than 400,000 passengers will use the AILA terminal during December, a figure that evidences the large influx of travelers during the Christmas season.
The AILA reports that in the first 17 days of December, an average of 189,000 domestic and foreign passengers were mobilized.
