Punta Cana beaches are famous and known worldwide as some of the most popular Caribbean destinations and as some of the best beaches in the Dominican Republic as well. Laced with ambrosial qualities and situated in a well-developed region where all your vacation needs can be met, Punta Cana is warm, tropical, and filled with beauty. Set at a point where the Atlantic meets warm Caribbean water, Punta Cana is also renowned for deep sea fishing with plenty of tours choose between. Hugged by a massive network of coral reefs, diving and snorkeling doesn’t get much better and swimming conditions are supreme. There are a number of beaches to visit in this destination as well as a great deal of popular resorts along the sand.
Playa de Macao
A UNESCO acclaimed beach for its fine white sand, Playa de Macao is home to the small fishing village of El Macao south of Uvero Alto in Punta Cana. The offshore shipwreck is a popular spot frequented by dive schools, and a fantastic view from the cliffs that back the beach. Strong waves also create good surfing conditions in Punta Cana.
Playa de Cortecito
More coral reefs and another ideal spot to snorkel is what you’ll find at Cortecito Beach, just north of popular Bavaro. It is one of the most celebrated stretches of sand in the Punta Cana area and also offers a village once home to ancient tribes. The small beach village is one of few in the area and offers a variety of small art galleries, shops, and dining options.
Arena Gorda Beach
The name is as distinct as the setting is at Arena Gorda. Wide beyond most island beaches, the literal translation of the name is Fat Sand. Magnificently spacious, Arena Gorda descends gently into the Caribbean Sea where the water is shallow and calm and ideal for swimming.
Playa Uvero Alto
Typically Dominican with white-sand beaches and many shade-giving palm trees, Uvero Alto stands apart as quiet and secluded and not yet on the beaten path. The resort itself is secluded but the surrounding reefs, excellent facilities, and restaurants offer a few good reasons to stay and play without venturing too far.
Playa Punta Rucia
This little gem is about two hours from Sosua and one of the best and most remote Punta Cana beaches. If you like a heavy dose of seclusion paired up with excellent diving and/or snorkeling, this is where to go. Playa Punta Rucia is off the usual path and is virtually never visited by guests of the (mostly) all inclusive island resorts. The extensive coral reef is the main draw along with a raw backdrop, a tidal wave of island birds, beautiful golden sand, and a landscape topped with rolling hills.
Playa Juanillo
South of Punta Cana is a beach with sugary white soft sand, dwarf palms, and a gorgeous surround. Not too easily accessed because of rough roads, rent a 4WD for the day and you’ll quickly realize it is worth every penny once you arrive. Endless sky meets picturesque seafront in what might be the most beautiful beach in the region.
Isla Catalina
Isla Catalina is a short boat ride from the southeast side of the island across from La Romana. It is most celebrated for the coral reefs that envelope it, creating ample opportunity for snorkeling and diving. A diversity of ecosystems thrive within the island including mangroves, reefs, beaches, and sand dunes. Created by old coral stones and inhabited by a rich array of wildlife, this is a must-see destination.
Playa Cabo Angano
Situated between Playa Bavaro and Playa Punta Cana, Cabo Angano is another of the most favored spots for windsurfing and regular surfing, attracting active crowds. The wind here gets pretty gusty so not everyone enjoys sunbathing or sitting along the shore but if you’re out on the water, it’s heavenly.
