Santo Domingo.- Tourism Minister David Collado announced that the government is taking significant steps to enhance tourism infrastructure, including a US$20 million investment to modernize the Puerto Plata cable car. He noted that the cable car posed a safety risk, as the company responsible for certifying its operation had warned that it could no longer guarantee its safety due to potential breakdowns.
Collado also highlighted several other investments in the region, including RD$700 million for the Luperón wastewater treatment plant and RD$130 million for completing the Playa Cenote highway. Additionally, RD$79 million was allocated for repairing sidewalks and curbs in Puerto Plata’s Historic Center, and the Sosúa highway is currently being paved.
In a strong stance against prostitution tourism in Sosúa, Collado announced a RD$600 million investment to redevelop the beach area, aiming to protect children and adolescents from exploitation. He also mentioned completed projects under his administration, such as the Playa Dorada plant and the Maimón multipurpose facility.
