Bavaro Beach is one of six beaches comprising Punta Cana, which is essentially one massive strip of beach. Bavaro joins Macao, Areno Gordo, El Cortecito, Cabeza de Toro, and Cabo Engano beaches, from the north down to the south. Playa Bavaro Punta Cana is the fourth beach located from the northern tip. An aerial view illustrates the island beauty drawing thousands to the Punta Cana area each year; an unending slice of coastal heaven and clear, turquoise Caribbean water that changes color as it nears the shore. The consistently warm temperatures and lack of rain that can appear throughout other Caribbean areas seals the deal for most vacationers.
Punta Cana occupies a large section of the most easterly part of Dominican Republic, also just a short distance from Puerto Rico. Playa Bavaro Punta Cana is known for amazing snorkeling along the reef just offshore, protecting the coast from extreme waves as well as offering a large, natural swimming pool. Beneath this pool’s surface is where some of the most beautiful aquatic scenery can be viewed while snorkeling or shore diving in Bavaro Beach. The protection by the coral reef also means desirable swimming conditions, which draw families with smaller children. Along the beach, a noticeable breeze off the ocean cools off hot days and affords a great place for sunbathing underneath the many palms lining the beach. With such a great shoreline and so many things to do, there comes a slew of adventure packages for active visitors looking to enjoy day trips, jet-skiing, cruises, and more. Most of these excursions and watersports are available via the resorts.
There are several large resorts in Bavaro, most notable a family of Barcelo resorts that includes a casino and golf resort. In fact, Dominican Republic resorts rule the roost here, and with more than 100 resorts in the Playa Bavaro Punta Cana area, there are few smaller hotels to choose from. The popularity of these all inclusive resorts is a major appeal to visitors for the valuable prices, known to be some of the cheapest in the Caribbean Islands. Even those planning independent travel often book rooms at resorts because of low prices virtually unbeatable by other hotels.
Though there is a slight absence in nightlife in the Bavaro Beach Punta Cana, there are still many things to do aside from beach activities. There is a large area shopping mall that features a bowling alley and a lounge and bar. There are several discos along the beach located inside resorts that are open to the public. Every full moon there is a large beach party offering live entertainment and drinks. There is also one live show in old Cuban Tropicana style that has been running for years at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort.
Bavaro Beach is one of the top attractions when visiting Punta Cana. It is renowned for the purity of the sand, where hardly a shell or stone can be seen. At the wave break, there is hardly any drop off making your retreat back to the beach as easy as getting into the ocean. Those who have traveled to Playa Bavaro Punta Cana after visiting other Dominican Republic beaches vow there is simply no comparison to the slice of heaven offered along this idyllic island shoreline.
