Montecristi, Dominican Republic.-The country on Wed. received the first flotilla of 12 planes from Cuba and the United States, as a result of the efforts by aviation officials who traveled to Lakeland, Florida, to participate in the Sun ‘N’ Fun fair, to attract some of the 40,000 private aircraft that visit the Caribbean.
Montecristi’s Osvaldo Virgil Aerodrome (northwest) was the setting for the “Fly In International Caribbean 2018,” a part of the yearly event held since 1974.
Sun ‘N’ Fun, one of the most important non-commercial private aviation events in the United States, features the best aerial acrobats and around 500 exhibitions.
This year the Dominican Republic was represented by Civil Aviation and Airport Dept. officials who traveled to the United States to attract a large percentage of the more than 40,000 private aircraft that visit the Caribbean region.
For this purpose, the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) and the North American Flight Plan Society FltPlan.com signed a MOU.
